KS1 Teacher - Maternity Cover
Position Overview:
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Key Stage 1 Teacher to join our vibrant primary school on a fixed-term maternity cover contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to a KS1 class, ensuring that all pupils are supported, challenged, and inspired to achieve their full potential.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching & Learning:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the KS1 national curriculum.
- Use a range of teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with SEND and EAL.
- Promote a love of learning through creative and interactive teaching methods.
- Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive learning environment.
Assessment & Progress:
- Monitor and assess pupil progress using formative and summative assessment techniques.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment and use data to inform planning.
- Prepare pupils for KS1 assessments, ensuring they are confident and well-supported.
Classroom Environment:
- Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.
- Organise and maintain classroom resources and displays that support learning.
- Foster positive relationships with pupils, encouraging independence and resilience.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with teaching assistants, SEN staff, and other colleagues to support pupil development.
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress and well-being.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events.
Safeguarding & Welfare:
- Uphold the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Promote the welfare of all pupils and report concerns promptly and appropriately.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recognised in the UK.
- Proven experience teaching in a KS1 setting.
- Strong knowledge of the KS1 curriculum and assessment frameworks.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Preferable:
- Experience with phonics scheme Read Write Inc
- Familiarity with KS1 SATs preparation and data tracking.
- Experience supporting children with SEND or emotional regulation needs.
- Confidence using digital learning tools and interactive technology.

- Experience
- Recent experience teaching in a KS1 classroom, ideally within the last 2 years. Strong phonics knowledge, particularly with schemes such as Read Write Inc., Letters and Sounds, or Jolly Phonics. Experience with formative assessment strategies, including tracking pupil progress and using data to inform planning. Confidence in differentiating lessons to meet the needs of mixed-ability learners
