Veritas Education is proud to be working in exclusive partnership with a welcoming and rapidly growing primary school in the Burnley area to appoint a committed and proactive Attendance Officer.
This is a key role within the school's administrative and pastoral team, and an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about improving pupil attendance and outcomes.
About the Role:
As the Attendance Officer, you will be responsible for managing and improving attendance across the school. You will work closely with the pastoral team, SLT, teachers, and families to identify and overcome barriers to attendance. Your work will directly support the school's safeguarding and pupil wellbeing strategies.
Key aspects of the role include:
Monitoring daily attendance using school systems (e.g. SIMS or equivalent)
Accurately recording, reporting and analysing attendance data
Making first-day absence calls and following up on unexplained absences
Identifying and tracking pupils with poor attendance or persistent absence (PA)
Working with parents/carers to improve attendance through phone calls, meetings, and home visits where appropriate
Coordinating with external agencies such as EWO (Education Welfare Officer) where necessary
Preparing attendance reports for senior leaders and governors
Supporting the school's safeguarding procedures via attendance tracking and CPOMs entries
Contributing to school-wide attendance strategies, reward systems and awareness initiatives
Key Requirements:
We are looking for a candidate who:
Has prior experience in a similar role or has relevant school-based administrative experience
Is confident using CPOMs, SIMS, or similar safeguarding/attendance monitoring systems
Has a working knowledge of attendance regulations, codes, and legal responsibilities
Is well-organised, detail-oriented and able to manage their time independently
Can remain calm under pressure and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
Can build positive, supportive relationships with families while maintaining professional boundaries
Understands the importance of safeguarding and the link between attendance and pupil wellbeing
