Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
The Role: Enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants support pupils across mainstream and specialist schools throughout West Yorkshire. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND, helping them access learning, develop independence and reach their full potential.
Direct Support:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support within the classroom.
- Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, communication and complex learning needs.
- Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
- Support the implementation of EHCPs, Individual Behaviour Plans and personalised strategies.
- Promote positive behaviour and use appropriate de-escalation techniques when required.
- Provide emotional, social and pastoral support.
- Assist with personal care or physical needs where required and appropriate.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and well-being.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers and external professionals.
- Update daily behaviour and progress trackers.
- Log communications with parents and carers onto appropriate data platforms.
Requirements:
- Experienced working with children, young people, vulnerable individuals or within care/support settings - paid or voluntary experience is welcomed.
- Able to be patient, empathetic and resilient. Calm and confident when managing challenging behaviour.
- Able to build positive relationships and understand individual pupil needs and triggers.
- Flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
- A strong communicator and effective team player.
- Qualified to at least GCSE/equivalent in English and Maths.
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this)
- Specialist training/ qualifications (Team Teach, Safeguarding Certificates etc)
