Behavioural Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Behavioural Specialist to provide dedicated support for two autistic pupils in a Bolton primary school. This role involves implementing personalised strategies to support emotional regulation, engagement with learning, and positive behaviour, while working closely with school staff and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group support tailored to the individual needs of two SEN pupils.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and autism-specific strategies to promote emotional wellbeing and engagement.
  • Use therapeutic and structured approaches to help pupils manage transitions, sensory needs, and social interactions.
  • Collaborate with class teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure consistent support.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and other documentation.
  • Promote inclusion and a safe, nurturing learning environment.
  • Preferable Experience

  • Experience supporting autistic children in a primary school setting.
  • Knowledge of autism-specific strategies.
  • Familiarity with emotional regulation tools and behaviour management frameworks.
  • Experience working with children with additional needs including ADHD, anxiety, or communication difficulties.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and SEND legislation.
  • Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Behaviour Support, Teaching Assistance, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Autism awareness or SEND training (e.g., NAS Autism Training, Team Teach).
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

    Experience
    Previous experience supporting children with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs in a primary school setting. Experience developing and implementing individual behaviour support plans. Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches and restorative practices. Working knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection protocols. Experience collaborating with SENCOs.
    Qualifications
    Relevant Level 3 qualification or higher in education or a related field. Experience working with children in an educational setting. Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and CPS.
