SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary School, Hackney

Location: Hackney, London Start Date: Immediate Contract Type: Full-time, Term-Time Only Salary: £100 - £110 per day

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic secondary school in Hackney. This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate looking to pursue a career in education, psychology, youth work, or counselling.

The Role:

You will work closely with students who have a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health challenges. This is a varied and rewarding position, ideal for someone who is committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support in and out of the classroom

  • Assisting teachers in adapting lesson materials and classroom activities

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, and social development

  • Working alongside teaching staff and the SENCO to monitor pupil progress and implement support strategies

  • Building strong relationships with students to foster confidence, independence and resilience

  • Person Specification:

  • Degree (minimum lower second)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach

  • Ability to use initiative and respond flexibly to the needs of individual students

  • Some experience working with young people or in educational settings is desirable, though not essential

  • A current DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one

  • This role would suit someone considering a future career in education, psychology, therapy or youth work, and offers excellent hands-on experience in a supportive and inclusive school environment.
