Title: Interventions Teacher
The Role:
Support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence and independence, and achieve their full potential through engaging, personalised and creative interventions. As an Interventions Teacher, you will work with pupils who may struggle to access traditional classroom-based learning and use a range of different teaching methods, activities and interests to help them develop academically, socially, emotionally and practically. The role will involve delivering targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions based around each pupil's individual needs, strengths and interests. This could include academic catch-up alongside creative, practical and life-skills activities such as cooking, art, music, drama, sport, outdoor learning or vocational activities. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral teams, support staff, families and external professionals to develop engaging approaches that help pupils build coping strategies, emotional regulation, communication, social skills, confidence and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality 1:1 and small-group interventions tailored to pupils' individual needs, abilities, interests and learning styles.
- Support pupils who may experience barriers to traditional classroom learning, including those with autism, ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, communication difficulties and learning difficulties.
- Use a variety of creative, practical and engaging teaching methods to motivate pupils and encourage positive engagement with education. These can be utilised to engage pupils and develop confidence, communication and self-expression. Incorporate these strategies to support well-being, teamwork, confidence and emotional regulation.
- Deliver targeted academic interventions in areas such as literacy, numeracy, reading, communication and other curriculum areas where required.
- Help pupils develop coping strategies and practical tools for managing emotions, anxiety, frustration and challenging situations. Support pupils to develop social skills, communication, teamwork, self-esteem and positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Identify and use pupils' individual interests, strengths and talents to monitor and assess pupils' progress across academic, social, emotional and life-skills interventions.
- Adapt teaching approaches, activities and resources to meet different learning styles, abilities, sensory needs and levels of engagement.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff and other professionals to ensure interventions complement pupils' wider support plans and EHCP outcomes.
- Provide clear feedback to teaching and pastoral staff and contribute to the review of individual support plans and intervention programmes.
- Encourage pupils to develop greater independence, resilience and confidence in managing their own learning and well-being.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of interventions, pupil progress, engagement and outcomes.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, following school safeguarding procedures.
- Promote safeguarding, inclusion, equality and high expectations for all pupils.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable, although suitable qualified education professionals/ experience may be considered depending on the role.
- Previous experience working with children or young people within an SEN, mainstream, alternative provision or specialist education setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties or learning difficulties.
- The ability to develop and deliver creative, practical and engaging interventions tailored to individual pupils. With a flexible approach to teaching, with the ability to think outside traditional classroom methods.
- A genuine interest or skill in at least one additional area such as art, music, drama, dance, cooking, sport, outdoor learning, crafts, technology or vocational skills is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- A calm, patient and empathetic approach, with the ability to respond effectively to pupils' individual emotional and behavioural needs.
- The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, families and external professionals.
- A commitment to supporting the whole child, including their academic progress, emotional well-being, social development and independence.
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this.)
