SEMH EYFS Teaching Assistant - Specialist School - Hounslow

Are you a resilient, patient and nurturing Teaching Assistant who enjoys working with young children and making a real difference?

We are currently recruiting for an SEMH EYFS Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Hounslow, supporting early years pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and a range of additional needs.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who can build strong relationships with young children, support emotional regulation and confidently manage challenging behaviour while creating a safe and engaging learning environment.

You may have a background in early years, education, nursery work, youth work, childcare, mentoring, care, support work or specialist education. Most importantly, you will be someone who is patient, consistent and able to remain calm when faced with challenging situations.

The Role

As an SEMH EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to early years pupils.

  • Support children with SEMH, emotional regulation, communication and additional needs.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young children who may have experienced difficulties in education or at home.

  • Support pupils with confidence, resilience, social development and early learning skills.

  • Manage challenging behaviour using positive and consistent behaviour strategies.

  • Encourage children to engage with learning through play-based and sensory activities.

  • Provide support both inside and outside of the classroom.

  • Help children develop independence, communication and self-regulation skills.

  • Support pupils during lessons, playtimes, interventions and wider school activities.

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and other professionals to support individual pupils.

  • Help create a calm, structured and supportive environment where children feel safe and able to succeed.

  • Who We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in candidates who have:

  • Experience working with children, particularly early years pupils.

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs is highly desirable.

  • A confident and calm approach to behaviour management.

  • The resilience to work in a demanding but highly rewarding environment.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • A patient, consistent and empathetic approach.

  • The ability to establish boundaries while maintaining positive relationships.

  • A background in early years, nursery, childcare, education, youth work, care, support work, mentoring or similar would be beneficial.

  • Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

  • You don't necessarily need previous experience as a Teaching Assistant. If you have strong experience working with young children and feel you could positively influence pupils who need additional support, we would be keen to hear from you.

    Why This Role?

  • Full-time, term-time only position.

  • ASAP start.

  • Specialist SEMH school in Hounslow.

  • Training and professional development opportunities.

  • A genuinely rewarding role where you can make a difference to young people's lives.
