Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Hamilton Square, Liverpool, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral and SEN teams to provide tailored support both in the classroom and on a 1:1 or small-group basis.
This role would suit someone who is patient, proactive, adaptable, and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide classroom support to secondary-aged pupils with a range of SEN needs
- Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, both academically and pastorally
- Work closely with teachers to deliver engaging and differentiated learning activities
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development
- Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and engage positively with their education
- Support pupils with communication, confidence, independence, and self-esteem
- Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning strategies
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Support the school's behaviour and safeguarding procedures
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, parents/carers, and external professionals
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, structured, and supportive learning environment
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable
- Experience within a secondary school or similar educational setting is advantageous
- Understanding of needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and cognition and learning needs
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confident supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships with young people
- Flexible and adaptable approach to supporting pupils' individual needs
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable but not essential
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
