Job Title: 1:1 Support Worker
The Role:
A one-to-one (1-to-1) support worker delivers dedicated, person-centred care and assistance to an individual with specific needs, such as a physical disability, learning difficulty, autism, or mental health condition. Empower clients to live as independently as possible within their own homes or educational and community settings.
Assist vulnerable 1:1 people with essential care activities consisting of but not limited to:
- Personal care - working with individual's food (feeding tubes- meal preparation), assisting with washing, dressing, bathroom activities and managing personal hygiene routines.
- Emotional and Mental Health support in building confidence, emotional regulation and behaviour development.
- Prompt or manage medical and health by administering prescribed medication, handing specialised equipment and managing physical needs (postural care/ positioning)
- Support in daily living activities (house cleaning, shopping, management of personal belongings/documents)
- Utilise sensory-based activities/ communication activities (non verbal cues/ tailored communication tools)
- Encourage community access by accompanying the individual to social activities, hobbies, education, work placements or medical appointments.
- Support with educational activities and personal milestone plans.
- Provide emotional and behavioural support with a reassuring presence, listen to concerns and encourage personal goals.
- Collaborate with families, social workers, medical professionals, educational provisions.
- Log daily notes, tracking health and behavioural changes and record incidents or medication accurately.
Requirements:
Expected:
- A compassionate approach, patience, willingness to/ comfortable with providing personal/ intimate care and able to support with behaviour, physical mobility and manual handling.
- Strong interpersonal skills with empathy and emotional resilience to build trust and rapport under intense pressure/ intimate settings.
- Reliable and dependable to provide consistent individual care.
- Have strong communication skills with strong active listening and conflict resolution skills.
- Have a willingness to learn/ use equipment for alternative communication methods, sensory/ therapeutic programs.
- Have experience in working (volunteer/ paid) with children, youth groups, vulnerable people, SEN, care settings.
- Academic baseline of GCSE or Qualifications in English/Maths
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this)
Desired:
- Specialist training/ qualifications (Team Teach, Safeguarding Certificates, Care certificate etc)
- Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care
