Job Overview
We are recruiting a passionate, resilient, and committed SEMH Teacher to join a specialist school in Halewood, Liverpool, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school provides a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment for pupils who require additional support to overcome barriers to education. Many pupils have experienced challenges that have impacted their learning and behaviour, and the school is dedicated to helping every young person build confidence, develop positive relationships, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with SEMH needs.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that promotes learning and emotional wellbeing.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, confidence, and resilience.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques to support pupils in managing their emotions and behaviour.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet a range of learning abilities and EHCP outcomes.
- Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, using assessment to inform future planning.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams, therapists, parents/carers, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
- Promote pupils' social, emotional, and personal development alongside academic achievement.
- Contribute to annual reviews, reports, and the development of individual support plans where required.
- Maintain high expectations while fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification (essential).
- Previous experience teaching children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs is highly desirable.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability to adapt to challenging situations.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to inclusive education and supporting pupils with additional needs to achieve their full potential.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
