Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable SEN Teacher to join a newly established specialist school in Wigan. The school provides a safe and supportive environment for young people aged 5-18 with Autism and/or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This role will primarily focus on teaching Key Stage 3 pupils, while also requiring the flexibility and confidence to support and teach across primary age groups when needed. You will work with pupils with a range of needs including ASD, ADHD, FASD, anxiety, and communication, interaction, cognition, and learning difficulties.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for Key Stage 3 pupils
- Adapt teaching approaches to also support primary-aged learners when required
- Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum across core and foundation subjects
- Develop and implement EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
- Create a structured, safe, and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils' social, emotional, and mental health development
- Use effective behaviour strategies tailored to SEMH needs
- Assess, track, and report on pupil progress
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and external professionals
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the school's curriculum and provision
Requirements
- QTS/QTLS (essential)
- Experience teaching Key Stage 3 (essential), with confidence supporting primary pupils
- Strong understanding of SEN, particularly ASD, ADHD, and SEMH
- Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching for a wide range of needs and abilities
- Calm, patient, and nurturing approach
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
