About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Bexley. This school supports pupils who face significant emotional and behavioural challenges, often linked to trauma, anxiety, or social difficulties.
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in helping students regulate emotions, develop coping strategies, and re-engage with learning. You will work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment where every child can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to support students with SEMH needs.
- Implement individualised behaviour management strategies and monitor their effectiveness.
- Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and emotional stability.
- Support students in developing social skills, resilience, and self-confidence.
- Assist in de-escalating challenging situations calmly and professionally.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to ensure consistent support.
- Record and report progress, contributing to behaviour plans and safeguarding documentation.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all pupils.
- Act as a role model, demonstrating patience, empathy, and consistency at all times.
Requirements
- Proven experience working with SEMH students (essential).
- Strong behaviour management skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Enhanced Child DBS (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people and helping them succeed.
