The Role

Veritas Education are working with a specialist SEN school in Leeds who are looking for an experienced and dedicated 1:1 Support Worker/Teaching Assistant to provide consistent support to a learner with complex additional needs.

This is a long-term opportunity, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will provide personalised 1:1 support, helping the learner access their education while promoting their well-being, independence, communication and development.

Key Requirements

SEN Experience - Experience supporting learners with Autism and complex learning needs is essential. You will need to understand how to adapt your approach, provide appropriate support and respond to the learner's individual needs.

Personal Care - You must be comfortable supporting with personal care, hygiene and changing requirements. Due to the learner's complex learning and medical needs, this will form an important part of the role.

Behaviour Support - You will need to be confident supporting and managing challenging or distressed behaviour, including situations where a learner may become dysregulated, volatile or physically reactive. Your ability to remain calm and use appropriate de-escalation strategies will be essential. Additional training can be provided by Veritas Education.

Reliable & Consistent - As this is a dedicated 1:1 role, reliability is essential. The successful candidate will provide consistent daily support, build a strong relationship with the learner and become a trusted member of their support team.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in supporting children or young people with SEN.

  • Patient and compassionate, with a learner-centred approach.

  • Confident managing challenging or unpredictable situations.

  • Resilient and calm when supporting periods of dysregulation.

  • Proactive, willing to get involved and support the learner throughout their school day.

  • Reliable and committed to providing consistent 1:1 support.

  • Comfortable supporting with personal care and hygiene requirements.

  • Able to work closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals.

  • Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting Autism and/or complex SEN is essential.

  • Experience supporting challenging behaviour is highly desirable.

  • Must be comfortable providing personal care.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the learner's well-being.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is desirable, or willingness to apply.
