Are you a caring, patient and experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with complex and profound additional needs?
We are recruiting for an Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Merton SM4 area, supporting children aged 3-19 with severe and complex learning difficulties, PMLD, Autism, physical and sensory disabilities, and complex health needs.
The role is based within the Early Years provision, supporting young children at an important stage of their development. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is nurturing, adaptable and passionate about helping children with complex needs learn, communicate and develop.
The Role
As an Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to children within the Early Years setting.
Support pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties, PMLD, Autism and physical or sensory disabilities.
Support children's communication, sensory development, independence and emotional wellbeing.
Assist with play-based, sensory and structured learning activities.
Use appropriate communication and sensory strategies to support engagement.
Support children with physical and mobility needs where required.
Assist with personal care and complex health needs, following appropriate training and procedures.
Build positive, trusting and nurturing relationships with pupils.
Follow individual EHCPs, learning plans, care plans and support strategies.
Work closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and the wider SEN team.
Monitor pupil engagement, development and progress.
Help maintain a safe, calm and stimulating learning environment.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience working with Early Years children.
Experience supporting children with complex SEN, PMLD, Autism or profound learning difficulties is highly desirable.
A patient, nurturing and compassionate approach.
Confidence supporting children with physical, sensory or communication needs.
An understanding of individualised and sensory-based learning.
The ability to remain calm and adaptable in a specialist environment.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, sensory approaches or moving and handling would be beneficial.
Experience supporting personal care or complex health needs is advantageous.
Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.
You don't necessarily need previous experience in a specialist school. If you have strong Early Years, childcare or SEN experience and are passionate about supporting children with complex needs, we'd like to hear from you.
