Early Years Teaching Assistant - Pontefract (Reception & Nursery)
A lovely small primary school in Pontefract is looking for a warm, empathetic Early Years Teaching Assistant to support children in Reception and Nursery. This role is perfect for someone who genuinely enjoys helping young children feel safe, confident and excited about learning.
You'll be working closely with the Early Years team, supporting children on a 1:1 and small‑group basis, helping them with early phonics, play‑based learning, social development and daily routines. The school has a nurturing, family‑feel environment and is looking for someone who can bring patience, care and a calm presence to the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Support EYFS children in Reception and Nursery through play‑based and structured activities
- Provide 1:1 support for children who need extra help with communication, confidence or learning
- Assist with early phonics and literacy
- Help with daily routines including settling‑in, transitions and outdoor play
- Encourage social skills, turn‑taking and positive interactions
- Create a caring, safe environment where children feel supported and understood
What We're Looking For
- Experience working in Reception or Nursery
- A caring, empathetic and patient approach
- Confidence supporting young children on a 1:1 basis
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Someone who loves Early Years and understands the importance of nurturing relationships
