The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming Primary School from September. This rewarding role involves providing tailored support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and additional learning needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop social skills, and achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to deliver high-quality support both within the classroom and through targeted interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ASD and additional SEN needs.
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and learning activities.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of individual pupils.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Encourage pupil independence, confidence, and engagement.
  • Build strong relationships with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff.
  • The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a school or educational setting.
  • A strong understanding of autism and associated learning, communication, and behavioural needs.
  • Experience supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, resilient, and proactive approach.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification are desirable but not essential.
