Job Overview
We are recruiting a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Halewood, Liverpool, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school provides a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment for pupils who require additional support to overcome barriers to education. Many pupils have experienced challenges that have impacted their learning and behaviour, and the school is committed to helping every young person build confidence, develop positive relationships, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement and emotional wellbeing.
- Support pupils in managing their behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities.
- Encourage the development of social skills, emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
- Support pupils in working towards their individual learning goals and EHCP outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, therapists, and external professionals.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and engagement.
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Support pupils with personal care or additional needs where required.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or other special educational needs (essential).
- Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour in education, care, youth work, or similar settings is highly desirable.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability to remain positive under pressure.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to establish clear boundaries while showing empathy and understanding.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (desirable).
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
