About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Harrogate from September.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with additional needs, helping them access learning, build confidence, and thrive within a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN (e.g. Autism, ADHD, speech and language, SEMH)
- Assist the class teacher in delivering adapted and inclusive lessons
- Support the implementation of EHCPs and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Encourage pupils' social, emotional, and academic development
- Promote positive behaviour and reinforce school expectations
- Help create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals
- Support with personal care if required (training provided)
- Monitor and record pupil progress
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, caring, and genuinely passionate about supporting children with additional needs
- Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- Adaptable and resilient in a busy school environment
- A strong team player with a positive, proactive attitude
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
Desirable
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience within a primary school setting
- Knowledge of autism, SEMH, or speech and language support strategies
- Team Teach or behaviour support training
