Our client is a specialist independent school supporting young people aged 11-16 with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication difficulties, and cognition and learning challenges.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate, creative, and dedicated English Teacher to join a specialist team in Burnley. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher who is committed to making English accessible, engaging, and meaningful for pupils with a range of additional learning needs.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality English lessons across KS3 and KS4, helping pupils develop their literacy, communication, reading, and writing skills while supporting their social, emotional, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons aligned with the national curriculum and individual learning needs
  • Teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and KS4, adapting content and resources to support pupil progress
  • Develop pupils' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through creative and inclusive teaching approaches
  • Create and implement personalised learning plans and support EHCP targets
  • Foster a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes confidence and a love of learning
  • Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress, achievement, and attainment
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies to support pupil outcomes
  • Support pupils' communication, emotional regulation, and social development through effective classroom practice
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies and trauma-informed approaches to maximise engagement and achievement
  • The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • QTS or QTLS (essential)
  • Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 level
  • Experience working with pupils with SEN, either in mainstream or specialist settings
  • Strong understanding of ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs
  • The ability to differentiate effectively and adapt teaching to meet a range of learning styles and abilities
  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
  • A commitment to inclusive education and raising attainment for all learners
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
