Teaching Assistant - 1:1 SEN Support

Primary School - Barking and Dagenham Salary: £1,800 - £2,200 per month Start Date: Immediate

A welcoming and well-regarded primary school in Newham, East London is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a nurturing and inclusive school community. The position is expected to run until at least July, with the possibility of becoming a permanent role.

The school is a two-form entry setting with excellent facilities, catering to pupils from Reception through to Year 6, including a strong SEN provision. It is well connected by public transport and offers a friendly, team-oriented atmosphere. The school is committed to ensuring all children enjoy learning and reach their full potential.

You will be working alongside a supportive and collaborative staff team who are passionate about delivering the best outcomes for every pupil.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Pupils

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for students with SEN

  • Assist pupils in progressing academically under teacher guidance

  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour

  • Deliver targeted interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis

  • Build strong, positive relationships and act as a role model

  • Support inclusion and active participation in lessons

  • Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Plans

  • Supporting Teachers

  • Assist the class teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment

  • Apply strategies to support lesson objectives

  • Track pupil progress and provide feedback to the teacher

  • Reinforce positive behaviour in line with school policies

  • Offer general classroom assistance where needed

  • Requirements

    Essential

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above), or equivalent

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or supporting children with SEN

  • Desirable

  • Experience providing 1:1 support for SEN pupils (e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH)

  • A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related subject
