About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated and skilled 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a primary-aged child with severe and complex special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a pupil who requires consistent, personalised support to access learning and thrive within the school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one support throughout the school day
- Implement individualised learning plans created by the SENCo and class teacher
- Use Widget/Widgit symbols and visual supports consistently to aid communication, reduce anxiety, and structure daily routines
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Liaise closely with teachers, SENCo, and external professionals
- Assist with personal care, mobility, and sensory needs where required
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning space tailored to the child's needs
Essential Requirements
- Experience using Widget/Widgit visual communication systems (this is a mandatory requirement for this role)
- Experience supporting children with severe or complex SEND
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Ability to work collaboratively with the wider SEND team
- Excellent communication skills
- A genuine desire to support children with additional needs
Desirable Skills
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, SEND training)
- Experience with communication aids, structured visual timetables, sensory integration, or behaviour support frameworks
