SEND Teaching Assistant - Reception Class (1:1 Support) - Preston

Veritas Education is currently working with a welcoming primary school in Preston that is seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to support a child in their Reception class on a 1:1 basis.

This role involves working with a non-verbal child with additional needs, requiring someone calm, patient, and confident in supporting communication development, emotional regulation, and personal care.

About the Role

You will be providing consistent, nurturing 1:1 support for a Reception-aged child with SEND. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one support throughout lessons, playtime, and structured activities
  • Helping to implement communication strategies, such as visuals, Makaton, or PECS
  • Offering personal care support, including toileting
  • Supporting emotional regulation and managing challenging behaviours
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to follow support plans
  • Who We're Looking For

    We are seeking someone who is confident, caring, and passionate about supporting early learners with additional needs.

    Essential requirements:

  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • At least 6 months of experience in a similar role within a school setting
  • Confidence in supporting children with SEND and communication needs
  • A calm, positive, and resilient approach
  • Genuine enthusiasm for helping children thrive in the early years
  • Desirable:

  • Experience working within the EYFS curriculum
  • Knowledge of non-verbal communication tools
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
