SEND Teaching Assistant - Reception Class (1:1 Support) - Preston
Veritas Education is currently working with a welcoming primary school in Preston that is seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to support a child in their Reception class on a 1:1 basis.
This role involves working with a non-verbal child with additional needs, requiring someone calm, patient, and confident in supporting communication development, emotional regulation, and personal care.
About the Role
You will be providing consistent, nurturing 1:1 support for a Reception-aged child with SEND. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one support throughout lessons, playtime, and structured activities
- Helping to implement communication strategies, such as visuals, Makaton, or PECS
- Offering personal care support, including toileting
- Supporting emotional regulation and managing challenging behaviours
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to follow support plans
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking someone who is confident, caring, and passionate about supporting early learners with additional needs.
Essential requirements:
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- At least 6 months of experience in a similar role within a school setting
- Confidence in supporting children with SEND and communication needs
- A calm, positive, and resilient approach
- Genuine enthusiasm for helping children thrive in the early years
Desirable:
- Experience working within the EYFS curriculum
- Knowledge of non-verbal communication tools
- An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
