Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)
Location: Bolton, Great lever Contract Type: Full-time Salary: MPS - UPS
Job Purpose
The SENCO will lead and manage the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the school. They will ensure compliance with statutory requirements, coordinate interventions, and work closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to promote inclusion and raise achievement for all pupils with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Develop and implement the school's SEND policy in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
- Lead and manage the SEND team, including Teaching Assistants and support staff.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on inclusive teaching strategies and SEND best practice.
Pupil Support
- Oversee the identification and assessment of pupils with SEND.
- Coordinate provision for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and those on SEN Support.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions and adjust strategies as needed.
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure statutory responsibilities for SEND are met, including maintaining accurate records.
- Prepare and submit documentation for EHCP applications and annual reviews.
- Liaise with external professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Local Authority SEND teams.
Communication & Collaboration
- Work closely with parents/carers to ensure effective communication and partnership.
- Report to senior leadership and governors on SEND provision and pupil progress.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Proven experience teaching and supporting pupils with SEND.
- Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements.
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
Desirable Experience
- National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete within 3 years).
- Experience managing a team and delivering staff training.
- Familiarity with EHCP processes and multi-agency working.
