SEN Teaching Assistant - Hackney
Location: Hackney, East London Start Date: ASAP or January 2026 Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time Only Salary: £90-£110 per day (Umbrella rate)
Veritas Education are working in partnership with a friendly and inclusive two-form entry primary school in Hackney who are seeking a passionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team.
About the Role
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
You will provide targeted 1:1 or small group support, helping children to access the curriculum, develop their confidence, and achieve their full potential in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEN in class, 1:1 or in small groups
- Assist with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs)
- Encourage pupil participation, confidence and independence
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and outside professionals
- Support the emotional and social development of pupils
- Help maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment
Requirements
- Essential: Experience working with SEN children in a school or nursery setting
- A caring, patient and proactive approach to supporting children's learning
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A good understanding of safeguarding and behaviour support strategies
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential
