Lead Key Stage 1 (KS1) Teacher
Full-time
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (dependent on experience)
Purpose of the Role
To lead and manage the Key Stage 1 phase, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and pupil progress. The Lead KS1 Teacher will model outstanding practice, support colleagues, and contribute to whole-school development.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning- Deliver high-quality teaching in KS1, ensuring all pupils make progress.
- Plan and implement engaging, differentiated lessons aligned with the national curriculum.
- Use formative and summative assessment to inform planning and track progress.
Leadership & Management- Lead the KS1 team, providing guidance, mentoring, and support.
- Monitor teaching standards and pupil outcomes across Year 1 and Year 2.
- Organise and lead phase meetings, moderation sessions, and CPD activities.
- Contribute to school improvement planning and curriculum development.
Pupil Support- Promote inclusive practices and support pupils with SEND, EAL, and SEMH needs.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and pastoral support systems.
- Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to support pupil wellbeing.
Assessment & Data- Lead assessment practices in KS1, including Phonics Screening and KS1 SATs.
- Analyse data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for intervention.
- Report on pupil progress to SLT and governors.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Degree in Education or relevant subject
- GCSEs in English, Maths, and Science (Grade 4/C or above)
Desirable Qualifications- NPQ in Leading Teaching or equivalent leadership training
- Safeguarding and SEND training
Experience- Minimum 2 years teaching experience in KS1
- Proven track record of raising attainment
- Experience leading a phase or subject area
Skills & Attributes- Strong knowledge of KS1 curriculum and assessment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to inspire and lead a team
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion

- Experience
- Prior experience leading a phase or subject area, ideally within KS1. Ability to mentor and support other teachers, including ECTs and TAs. Experience conducting lesson observations, giving feedback, and supporting professional development. Involvement in school improvement planning and curriculum development.
- Qualifications
- Familiarity with KS1 curriculum, phonics schemes and statutory assessments. Up-to-date safeguarding training. Experience or training in SEND and inclusive education practices.
