About the School
We are a specialist secondary school for students aged 11-19 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The Role
As Assistant Principal, you will be the driving force behind embedding a positive behaviour culture across the school. You will:
- Lead on behaviour strategy and systems, ensuring high expectations are consistently applied and celebrated.
- Promote and model a restorative, relational approach that builds trust and accountability.
- Ensure that students' attitudes to learning are positive, fostering resilience, perseverance, and respect.
- Support the Principal in monitoring and improving standards of attendance, punctuality, and engagement.
- Coordinate staff training to strengthen behaviour management practices and promote a calm, purposeful learning environment.
- Collaborate closely with therapeutic teams to ensure students' social and emotional development underpins their academic success.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - this is highly desirable, though strong candidates with exceptional leadership experience will also be considered.
- Have proven success in leading behaviour and attitudes within a secondary or specialist setting.
- Believe deeply in the capacity of SEMH learners to thrive when given structure, high expectations, and empathy.
- Demonstrate resilience, consistency, and a solution-focused mindset in the face of challenge.
- Be able to inspire and coach staff, building a shared commitment to excellent behaviour practice.
- Show a relentless commitment to creating a safe, calm and respectful school climate where all students feel they belong.
