SEND Teaching Assistant - ASD Specialist Location: Southwark Position: 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant (ASD Specialist) Start date: September 2025 Pay: £95 - £115 per day

Veritas Education are working in partnership with a warm and inclusive primary school in Southwark, South East London, to recruit an experienced 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025.

This OFSTED-rated 'Good' school has an excellent reputation for its nurturing approach and strong provision for children with special educational needs, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCO and class teacher to provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with ASD, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional development is fully supported.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant with strong experience supporting pupils with ASD, especially non-verbal children, who is passionate about creating inclusive learning environments and helping children reach their full potential.

The Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant Will Have:

  • Previous experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (essential)

  • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils using alternative communication methods (e.g. PECS, visual timetables, Makaton desirable)

  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with pupils with complex needs

  • The ability to build trust and positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents

  • A proactive and flexible approach, with excellent teamwork and communication skills

  • Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing one-to-one tailored support to a pupil with ASD

  • Assisting the teacher in delivering differentiated learning activities and personalised interventions

  • Supporting the pupil's social, emotional, and behavioural development

  • Using strategies and resources to aid communication and engagement for non-verbal learners

  • Monitoring progress and feeding back to the class teacher and SENCO

  • Helping create a safe, structured, and stimulating learning environment

  • Contributing positively to the wider school community
