We are working with a "Good" Ofsted-rated mainstream primary school in Watford who are currently looking to recruit a School Business Manager to start in January 2018, on an initial contract until Easter, to be potentially extended for the rest of the academic year.

The school has a Catholic ethos and recently converted to Academy status. Ofsted rated the Leadership and management as "Good" while the behaviour and safety of pupils is "Outstanding".

The selected candidate will need to be proactive and efficient, responsible for organising and facilitating time and money-saving systems and procedures including Cashless Catering, ensuring the school's budget and resources are used in the most efficient way, ensuring all non-teaching aspects of the school are managed effectively.

The post holder will have management responsibilities including:

Finance: ensure the school gets value for money.

Personnel: line manage and support admin team to put into process more efficient working processes. Ensure effective administrative systems and practice for the smooth and efficient running of the school. Ensure that the office and reception is efficient and high quality to serve the school's needs.

Premises: Overseeing the Premises Manager, liaising to ensure maintenance and upkeep, ensuring we have the best possible learning and working environment.

Payroll: Manage and organise the school's Payroll operations, ensuring that each stage of the payroll process is actioned properly.

Other key responsibilities include:

Advising the SLT on financial policy, prepare business plans and appraisals of projects, and support the future development of the school.

Keeping an accurate Single Central Record (SCR) of recruitment, as recommended by the Department for Education. Logging all recruitment checks, including details of DBS and ID checks. You will need to maintain the record throughout the year and update it whenever new staff are recruited.

Key skills and experience needed:

  • Previous support work within a school or other transferable child-related experience
  • Substantial experience of working in a school organisation
  • Similar staff / personnel related tasks
  • Experience of managing databases and relevant software
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (face to face, telephone, written)
  • Excellent numeracy and database skills
  • Well organised, skillful and resourceful
  • Enthusiastic, Proactive and determined approach
  • The school is within walking distance of a mainline train station, and is also accessible by a number of bus routes.
